Associate Lecturer

Summary

Alex completed his applied master's degree in sport and exercise psychology examining the television viewing patterns of Grades 5 and 6 primary school children over a one-month period to understand whether watching sport was positively related to their sport and exercise behaviour. He then went on to complete a PhD at the University of Queensland. His thesis focused on partner alcohol use, parenting and mental health within young adult couples whilst also examining the quality of such relationships over a three-year period. Alex provided recommendations for the assessment and intervention of health-related behaviours in couple relationships as they continue to be strongly associated with individual, community, and societal burdens particularly in couples with children (i.e., families), and when relationships dissolve. He has since completed a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education where his Action Learning Intervention examined how academic self-efficacy, intrinsic motivation, and perceived academic control were associated with academic outcomes for fourth year psychology students.  Various teaching and learning strategies were implemented with the intention of enhancing his students’ academic self-efficacy and ultimately improving their final Honour’s thesis. Alex has since been supervising fourth year psychology students on sport and exercise related topics at Monash University.
