and Support

ISN Psychology is committed to a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment. If you experience or witness sexual harassment, sex-based harassment, sexual assault, bullying, discrimination, hate speech, or culturally unsafe behaviour, support is available.

  • Call 000 if you or someone else is in immediate danger.

  • If you are safe and want urgent counselling, contact 1800RESPECT (24/7): 1800 737 732.

Urgent

Help

What should I do right now?

If something has just happened

1. Get to a safe place and, if you can, stay with someone you trust.

2. Get medical care if needed (including for injuries or sexual health support).

3. Consider preserving evidence (only if you want to and it feels safe):

  • avoid washing clothes or bedding

  • avoid deleting messages or images

  • write down what you remember (time, place, who was there.

4. Get support. You do not need to manage this alone.

If you are not ready to report

That is OK. You can still get support and talk through options. You can choose what happens next.

You can contact ISN Psychology (studentsupport@isn.edu.au) to:

  • seek support (without starting a formal process), and or

  • make a report if you want the Institute to assess the matter and consider formal action.

You can also make an anonymous report. Anonymous reports can limit what ISN Psychology can do, yet they can still help us assess risk and improve safety.

How ISN Psychology can help

If someone tells you something has happened - Your response matters.

Do:

  • listen and stay calm

  • say “I believe you” and “It’s not your fault”

  • ask “What do you need right now?”

  • help them connect with support

  • respect their privacy and choices

Avoid:

  • judgement, disbelief, blame, or pressure to report

  • asking for lots of detail

  • sharing information with others unless they ask you to (or unless safety requires it)

Helpful phrases:

  • “I’m sorry this happened.”

  • “I believe you.”

  • “You’re not alone.”

  • “How can I support you right now?”

Be an active bystander

If you see something that feels unsafe or disrespectful, you can act in ways that are safe for you.

Use the 4Ds:

  • Direct: If it is safe, say “That’s not OK. Stop.”

  • Distract: Interrupt the situation to create space (eg, “Can you help me with something?”).

  • Delegate: Get help from staff, placement supervisors, venue staff, or call 000 if needed.

  • Document: If safe and lawful, note what you saw (time, place, people). Share it with the person affected or include it in a report. Do not post on social media.

If you are unsure, choose Delegate. Safety first.
